Crevons l’abcès d’entrée. Oui Flying Lotus est le neveu de John et Alice Coltrane (et accessoirement le cousin de Ravi). Oui il partage avec eux une vision artistique et un don évident pour la musique. Mais cela n’est guère suffisant pour expliquer le talent d’un homme plus proche des escapades hip-hop d’un Dabrye que du jazz spiritual de tonton et tata Coltrane.

La progression musicale dont est sujet Flying Lotus peut certainement s'afficher comme l'une des plus intéressantes de ces dernières années. Cette première sortie sur Warp (pour la signature de Reset EP), qui prouve une nouvelle fois les bonnes prévisions dont est capable le label anglais, est une réussite à plusieurs niveaux. Outre une prescription plus qu'appréciable d'une bonne dose de groove spatial et d'envolées musicales planantes, la visibilité que peut proposer une structure d'une telle envergure est une aubaine pour tout artiste débutant de parvenir à s'afficher dans les esprits comme une avant-garde en devenir. Sur le chemin de cette illumination musicale, Flying Lotus est à l'image de son pseudonyme: une entité relevant autant de la graine et de ce potentiel sous-jaçent que de la fleur et de l'expression la plus pure de ce talent prêt à jaillir avec une évidente justesse.
